2019 Wedding Trends

I sat down with owner Jenn Robirds and asked what she thinks 2019 will bring. While 2018 brought amazing design elements and out of the box ideas, we think 2019 will be even bigger and better! Whether you're a bride-to-be, a wedding professional, or simply love all things wedding, up and coming trends are always fun to watch change through the years. Below are six trends Jenn says to keep an eye out for this year, along with JRE photos that illustrate the trends beautifully!

1. Personalization is king

Clients are more savvy than ever with the evolution of Pinterest and the endless ideas at their fingertips. Customized weddings, particularly custom stationery, have been a big priority for our clientele this year. It doesn't cost more money to tie a custom monogram into your wedding design - but it is something you have to be thoughtful enough to dream up early in the process to allow for it to make an appearance in many elements (invitations, menus, wax seals, wedding cake, etc.).

2. Vellum accents

We started to incorporate vellum into quite a bit of our designs in the fall of last year and we don't see any indication of this trend slowing down. The opaque paper material makes amazing bands to tie custom wedding suites together. We have also used it in place cards, escort displays with gorgeous calligraphy, and even over engagement photos with printed text for save-the-dates. Many clients are incorporating it into their traditional design for a modern touch. We also predict custom wax seals to play a big role in designs this year. Each photo below incorporates vellum accents and/or beautiful wax seals!

3. Big floral installations

Lush, organic floral arrangements are still going strong. Greenery garland is OUT and instead, series of arrangements with heavy, romantic flowers are IN. Don't get us wrong, greenery still has its place. Clients are opting to suspend greenery over tables or in the ceiling of tents to "bring the outside in," but we are seeing the simple greenery table garlands fizzle out. Rightly so, with color being a big focus in 2019, many clients are choosing to pull their color palette through in their flower arrangements. On average, clients are spending 10- 15% of their overall wedding budget on floral.

4. A move back to classic

Many clients are asking for beautiful stitched white linens, formal place settings, and an abundance of romantic taper candles. We can't really blame them, as this is generally a recipe for wedding day success (and a guaranteed home run when paired with trends 1-3!) Ways we are keeping this look fresh and current are by choosing modern elements like new chairs - instead of the classic chiavari we are seeing clients opt for bentwood chairs or other new styles. Add in luxe menus, calligraphy details and textured napkins or runners, and everyone will be talking about your wedding for years to come.

5. Dark elements.

A handful of our clients are looking for rich, moody elements to incorporate into their otherwise classic design. Adding in a pop of black matte flatware or a black plate atop your gold banded charger takes the design from classic to slightly edgy - without putting Grandma out too much. Classic black and white combinations will always be chic, and we think 2019 is the year we will see more of this in wedding table top design.

6. Things I don't think we will see much of in 2019

There won't be much in the way of bright, vivid colors in wedding design. 2019 brides are looking for more romantic, soft, and classic designs this year and with that comes less bright elements. For example, instead of seeing bright coral, like the Pantone color of the year, we are seeing muted peach bridesmaid dresses tied in with soft, romantic sunset florals in shades of mauve, terracotta, blush and pale yellow. I also sincerely hope we don't see balloons this year in wedding design. Let's save the balloons for kid's birthday parties or corporate picnics, people. Unless you want to fly in on a huge hot air balloon - don't waste your money at Party City.
